Principal Embedded Engineer (Fairfax, VA)

About this Position:

We are seeking a Principal Embedded Engineer to join our team working out of our Fairfax, VA office location.

Qualifications

Required

  • Master of Science degree (or higher) and 15-20 years of experience with embedded hardware design including (but not limited to) firmware, software and RF
  • Experience in all aspects of the hardware development process, including requirements specification, characterization, simulation, high-speed digital design, signal processing, schematic capture, layout, routing, testing, and integration.
  • Demonstrated mixed-signal circuit card assembly development experience, from concept to delivery, utilizing High Density Interconnect (HDI) PCBs and high speed (> 1 GHz) components/circuits.
  • Experience with circuit simulation, circuit analysis and signal integrity tools/techniques
  • Experience (as applicable) with FPGA and microprocessor development including hardware descriptor languages (e.g. Verilog, VHDL)
  • Experience with hardware integration, test and debug tools (logic analyzers, scopes, emulators)
  • Knowledge of PCI, PCIe, cPCI, VME, and VPX standards (VITA 46 and VITA 65) and demonstrated experience implementing in embedded hardware
  • Experience with Hardware engineering processes and standards, and product configuration management system

Desired

  • Experience with design for extremely demanding/rugged environments (e.g. high temp, shock/vibe, etc.)
  • Experience with writing test software in C/C++ or assembly language to test hardware
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layouts using Altium design tools within IPC standards
  • Familiarity with embedded Linux development
  • Familiarity with Linux kernel module and driver development

Electronics Laboratory Technician (Fairfax, VA)

Responsibilities:

Support Engineering Groups by kiting, building, assembling, soldering, and reworking printed circuit board assemblies, and cable assemblies. Support the Lab in the function of organizing, cleaning, and auditing.

  • Ability to follow work orders, production drawings, sample assemblies and verbal instructions.
  • Able to read and interpret electrical schematics, engineer drawings, specifications, manuals, and plans.
  • Perform wiring harness and cable assembly, performing continuity checks on the final assemblies.
  • Performs work (soldering, circuit modification, and general inspection) under a microscope.

  • Apply standards, directives, guidance, and policies to classified computing environments.
  • Using the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF) to conduct assessments of Information security controls to measure the effectiveness of controls and identify control gaps.

 Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high degree of technical situational awareness in the subject matter area regarding the application of existing and emerging technologies as related to customer needs and expectations; competitors’ intentions, strengths and weaknesses; Trident technical and business competencies; and Tridents public image.

About this Position:

The Hardware Engineer will perform hardware development for tactical vehicle and vessel health monitoring, prognostics, and condition-based maintenance (CBM).  This role will involve development of hardware to support custom processing platforms, sensor interconnects, cabling, and modifications to existing components. Hardware development will include signals processing, power management, PCB design, trade studies, and test/evaluation of electrical components. Regular tools will include Altium, bench-top electronic test equipment (scopes, multi-meters, power supplies), and custom test harnesses.

  • Design, implement, and test custom hardware/cabling for tactical vehicle and vessel sensor processing platforms
  • Conduct trade studies to identify components for project development
  • Develop hardware to work in conjunction with external and embedded hardware
  • Document development effort through design documentation, ICDs, user manuals, and test plans
  • Support technical test and demonstration events
  • Work under the direction of the Engineering Group Director and Project Manager.

  • Complete understanding of RF Cascade analysis (gain, noise, intercept, etc.) and tradeoffs as part of system design.
  • Knowledge in areas of analog to digital and digital to analog conversion, waveform characteristics, communication protocols, and signal processing as it relates to RF system design.
  • Proven ability to communicate well with peers, various levels of management and customers.
